Dr. Josh Collingsworth Credits His Son’s Medical Treatment with Starting His Award-Winning Practice, True Source Chiropractic

Article By: Chance Wilson I heard for years that having a child will change your life and ultimately impact it in every way possible. Every time I heard this statement, I sensed there was much more to the story that wasn’t being shared in the moment. For me, I can’t imagine sharing my fries at lunch with that special someone someday, let alone sharing your entire life with another human, especially a little human you’ve created.

Over time, I’ve come to understand the powerful effect children can have on a person’s life, especially when that influence helps guide you toward your purpose and career. This was exactly the case for Dr. Josh Collingsworth, a board-certified chiropractor, entrepreneur, and owner of True Source Chiropractic. His practice has experienced significant growth thanks to its unique and targeted approach to patient care. The focus is on identifying the root cause of physical issues, not just managing symptoms.

This philosophy alone was refreshing to hear. When you think about it, it seems like common sense. But, as the saying goes, common sense isn’t all that common. I can recall going to various doctors over the years and rarely did it feel like anyone was trying to understand the underlying cause of my issues. Instead, the default response was often quick pain medication.

For instance, if someone is overweight, it’s easy to offer a quick fix like cutting calories or reducing sodium intake. But a conversation with a nutritionist might take a more thoughtful and personalized approach. They might ask what kinds of food you enjoy, how your meals are prepared, what combinations you typically eat, and what time of day you usually eat them. These details can make a huge difference in the kind of advice or treatment you receive, and ultimately, in your results.

It was his own son’s health challenges that led Dr. Collingsworth to explore these deeper root causes. He described his son as a “Perfect Storm” child who struggled from birth with digestive problems, colic, behavioral issues, and impulse control. After trying medication and counseling, Dr. Collingsworth saw their limitations and decided to search for a different path. That journey shaped the focus of his practice today.

He came to believe his son’s behavioral issues were also neurologically based. Out of desperation, he discovered what would become his calling: to create a practice centered on neurological care for children. As his son began receiving treatment and showing improvement, Dr. Collingsworth was inspired to bring that same level of care to other families and communities.

Even though his son continues to need ongoing care, the progress has been so noticeable that his son’s friends have started seeking similar treatment. Now if that’s not a sign you’re on the right track, I don’t know what is.

Dr. Collingsworth says that his most popular requests at True Source Chiropractic now involve nervous system assessments and regulation. However, the most in-demand services are diagnostic procedures that include scans to determine the how, the what, and the why behind each case. These results guide adjustments and treatments that are just as effective for adults as they are for children.

With such success, you would think these services would be front-page news, but unfortunately, they’re not. One reason these procedures are still flying under the radar is a general lack of awareness. Dr. Collingsworth has noticed a growing shift, though, as more people begin exploring holistic alternatives. This, of course, affects how a business is run. As an entrepreneur, he says one of the biggest challenges is managing people, which includes coaching and training staff to stay current with the latest methods. Like many other business owners, he wants his team to reflect his passion and purpose. When that happens, it becomes easier to provide accurate information and care to the communities that need it most.

This is something I personally relate to. When it comes to healthcare, I strongly believe in doing the research and investing in alternative treatments. Of course, the term “alternative medicine” can bring comfort to some and skepticism to others. But to me, a remedy is a remedy. Not every solution has to come in the form of expensive or complex treatments. Some of the best outcomes come from simple, thoughtful approaches, if people are willing to consider all their options and not just those that benefit the medical industry the most.

Dr. Collingsworth wants chiropractic care to be a first option in healthcare, not a last resort. In just two years, his practice has helped over 80 pregnant women and their children. With between 7,000 and 8,000 patients served, 60 percent pediatric and 40 percent adult, the practice is clearly reaching its intended audience.

Their efforts have already been recognized with the “Best of the Beach” award, presented by The Virginian-Pilot newspaper, further establishing their place in the community. You know a practice is making an impact when families are willing to drive two hours or more just to be seen.

Dr. Collingsworth believes the future growth of his practice depends on increasing exposure to these underutilized services. He urges people to take their first appointment seriously, reminding us that “the absence of symptoms is not the presence of wellness.” He points to examples like someone who feels fine just days before having a heart attack, highlighting the need for a proactive approach to health. Feeling well is not always the same as being well. There are many issues that go unnoticed, and he encourages everyone to have their nervous system checked regularly.

With such relevant advice for everyday people, he also shares some tips for entrepreneurs. For Dr. Collingsworth, the most important elements of entrepreneurship are knowing your why, building a mission, and setting a vision that is so big it almost feels out of reach.
